First, a quick update. In my last post about UFC Fight Night 68 I let you guys know I was in a tie-breaker at DraftKings.com for a trip for 2 to UFC 189 along with VIP tickets. Well, I’m happy to say that I won the tie breaker! It ended up that my opponent and I had the exact same team except I had Abreu and he had Boetsch. After Abreu lost a split decision early it didn’t look good and I was almost resigned to defeat, but then the Hendo miracle happened and Boetsch was finished in 30 seconds. That is without a doubt the most excited I’ve been for a knockout in my UFC watching career.
There’s another contest at DraftKings.com this week where you can turn $3 into a VIP trip to Vegas. Try your luck and maybe we could grab a beer together in Vegas in early July!

Cain Velasquez vs Fabricio Werdum
It may be easy to sleep on Cain in this fight because he’s been out of action for so long, but let’s not forget that he is by far the top heavyweight fighter in the world. Werdum will be a good challenge and he does pose some different threats than JDS or Big Foot Silva, the two fighters Cain has fought in his past 5 outings but I still think Cain will be able to overwhelm Werdum with his constant pressure.
Werdum’s wins haven’t been over the best fighters in the division either. He lost to JDS the one time he fought him back in 2008 and also Arlovski back in 2007. Miocic is the #3 ranked heavyweight and Werdum has managed to dodge him while getting an Interim fight with Mark Hunt, who we all know is a gate keeper in the division. Basically, I still don’t know what Werdum is capable of, but we will find out this Saturday. Until he proves me wrong I’m going with Cain inside distance.

Gilbert Melendez vs Eddie Alvarez
This is an interesting fight between guys who were the Champions of their respective promotions (Strikeforce & Bellator) for a lot of years. This gave them a lot of recognition, but it also allowed them to fight much lower ranked guys. Melendez is ranked #4 and Alvarez #9, but neither fighter has ever beaten a guy currently ranked higher than them in the UFC. That’s not to say that they are ranked higher than they should be, but they do have a lot to prove.
I like Alvarez in this fight because I think it will be a grind that could really go either way. So in that case I’m going to take the dog.

Kelvin Gastelum vs Nate Marquardt
Gastelum has been forced to move up to Middleweight for this fight after missing weight by 10 pounds at Welterweight last time out. He lost that fight to Tyron Woodley by split decision, but for being sick from weight cutting and fighting his best opponent to date it was actually a decent performance.
I think Gastelum will dominate Marquardt for the entire fight. I’m not sure he will get a finish though, but it will be a dominant performance.
Play: Gastelum -450 @ BetOnline.ag
My Other Plays
In the lone women’s fight on the card I think Tecia Torres will win a fairly easy fight over Angela Hill. Torres is just more experience and she keeps moving forward. I think she will be able to smother Hill in the fight so I’m taking her to win -285 @ BetOnline.ag.
