I wasn’t very interested in the Fight Night card from last weekend so I didn’t end up getting around to writing a post for it. That said, Mir looked very good against Bigfoot and his improved striking may make him once again relevant in the Heavyweight division. I’m actually somewhat excited to see who they match him up with next.
In the last write up I actually did I took Benson Henderson and Max Holloway each to win their fights. They both did me proud, which helps improve my rough UFC record so far this season.
2014 Record: 54-33 for +17.31 units.
2015 Record: 5-8 for -5.52 units.
The Weidman vs Belfort fight that was meant to headline this card was the fight I was really looking forward to, but it’ll be interesting to see Ronda in the cage once again. Two ladies fights are headlining this card, which shows just how far Women’s MMA has come in a very short amount of time. In my opinion this isn’t a great PPV card, but with the upcoming cards UFC has announced I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for this one.
Ronda Rousey vs Cat Zingano
Yes, Cat Zingano is probably the most difficult test Ronda has had to face so far, but really is that saying much? Ronda has steam rolled every opponent and the media is always wondering if the next match up could be more difficult for her. To be fair her biggest test was Miesha Tate taking her to round 3 at UFC 168. It’s a fight that was actually supposed to be Zingano’s after knocking Tate out in the title eliminator fight, but injuries forced her out and Tate took her spot. It was actually probably good for the UFC because that Rousey vs Tate fight drew a lot of excitement after their TUF season and now they can put another seemingly strong fighter in front of Rousey.
Zingano is 9-0 and she finishes fights. After rehabbing her injury after her Tate knockout, she knocked out Amanda Nunes who is ranked #9 in the division. Before those fights she also finished Raquel Pennington (who is the co-main event this weekend and ranked #14). We really haven’t seen just how good Zingano is yet.
All of that said Rousey just keep getting better and I simply cannot see her losing this fight. I’m taking Rousey within the distance.

Raquel Pennington vs Holly Holm
Pennington hasn’t done much to earn this co-main event fight. After her Zingano loss she followed it up with a loss to Lesslie Smith and since joining the UFC she has lost to Jessica Andrade and only one once this past December. It seems like this is a fight to showcase Holly Holm as a UFC fighter.
Holm is 7-0 in her MMA career, but she came to prominence as a boxing champion before making the transition. She’s a crazy athlete and although she’s no as experienced of a mixed martial artist as Pennington, she is more athletic in my opinion and has the ability to finish this fight standing.
The UFC wants to market Holm and for this reason they have set her up with a very beatable opponent.

Jake Ellenberger vs Josh Koscheck
Koscheck is back after over a year layoff. He is currently riding a 3 first losing streak, but these losses have come to Johny Hendricks, Robbie Lawler and Tyron Woodley, each of whom have proven themselves as being top fighters in the Welterweight division. Koscheck gets another tough opponent in Ellenberger, but I don’t feel like Ellenberger is at the same level as the 3 who have beaten Koscheck in this last 3 outings.
Ellenberger has a very similar status of being on a 3 fight losing streak, but dropping these fights to very top end opponents in Rory MacDonald, Robbie Lawler (the two of whom are now fighting for the championship) and Kelvin Gastelum, who was looking like a beast until his weight cutting issue in his last fight.
I really see this fight going either way, but I think the layoff could have actually helped Koscheck get his head back into the game. Because I can’t really pick a favourite I’m taking Koscheck in this one.
Play: Koscheck +175
Cat Zingano • Holly Holm • Jake Ellenberger • Josh Koscheck • Raquel Pennington • ronda rousey
