Contrary to popular belief, Chris Weidman will NOT be beating Anderson Silva on the night of July 6th, at the MGM Grand & Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
How could GSP, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson, Gray Maynard, Jake Ellenberger, and Dan Cormier all be wrong? The commonality between all these Weidman supporters is that they’re all wrestlers, and some even share coaches with Weidman. BJJ guys support other BJJ guys, wrestlers back wrestlers, it’s all about supporting your own clique. Not to mention they all fancy the thought of beating the GOAT, which they can do vicariously through Chris Weidman on the 6th. Don’t be fooled by fellow athlete predictions, they’re all biased.
Chris Weidman is 9-0, with wins over names such as Mike Stewart, Valdir Araujo, and Reubem Lopes. Weidman’s two most recent wins have come against Damien Maia, and Mark Munoz. Yes, Mark Munoz the “Filipino Wrecking Machine” who’s currently ranked 8th in the MW division, not exactly an adequate prerequisite for fighting the GOAT. Anderson Silva however has won 17 fights in a row, including 11 title matches against the top contenders in the MW division, in the meantime jumping up to the LHW division periodically while waiting for the next #1 contender. Anderson has not lost since ’06 (DQ from up-kick) and has not been beaten since ’04 (flying heel hook).
To witness video evidence as to why Anderson Silva will remain champion, please refer to Weidman’s bout with Maia, particularly in the 2nd round. Maia is a mediocre striker, and was actually managing to get the better of Weidman on his feet! If Damian Maia can land clean shots on Chris Weidman, then Anderson Silva will be picking apart Weidman at some point in this fight. Maybe not in the 1st round, or even the 2nd and 3rd (Weidman’s wrestling will be in top form) but Chris has never fought 5 rounds. At some period in this fight that inattentive defensive form will rear its ugly head, and unfortunately for Weidman, that’s all the Spider needs.
Odds
Online sportsbook BetOnline is giving the best odds on Weidman winning the fight at +200, while 5Dimes has Anderson at 235, which is the best you will find. The prop bets are where you can really make some money though, and the one I really like is the Silva wins by TKO/KO at 5Dimes.
